    • Wednesday night: “The Pedestrian” (p196) and “The Forecast” (p202).

Week of March 13.

  • Bring your ear buds/headphones tomorrow (Tuesday) if you have them!
  • Giver Nightly Reading. No response needed. Just read and make sure you are ready to be quizzed. Individually.

    • Tuesday night: to the end of chapter 19.
    • Wednesday night: to the end of chapter 20.
    • Thursday night: to the end of chapter 21.

  • Think Ahead: Giver Final Project will be due Thursday, 3/30

Week of March 6.

  • KBARR = The Giver. There will be a reading check quiz every day, preceded by a Q/A session. Bring your book every day (the Popple will be watching), and come prepared with questions about ANYTHING you don’t understand.  Response = DAILY = 1 + 1 + 1 = 1 sentence summary, 1 sentence reaction, 1 thoughtful question. Reading assignments might vary depending on how far we get in class, so pay attention!
    • Monday night: to the end of chapter 10.
    • Tuesday night: to the end of chapter 12.
    • Wednesday night: to the end of chapter 14.
    • Thursday night: to the end of chapter 16.

      • 1 COMPLEX prediction sentence (because, since)
      • If your book doesn’t lend itself to predictions, do two opinions.
  • Vocabulary due Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • THINK AHEAD: Rough drafts of completed interviews due Feb 23.

  • Vocabulary due Tuesday, Wednesday.
  • Research Paper due Friday.
    • Approximately 1000 words.
    • 3+ sources w/ properly formatted Works Cited. (Use EasyBib or equivalent.)
    • 3+ graphs, charts, maps, etc. These should help explain, not just decorate.
    • In-text citations.
    • Introductory anecdote.
    • Evident organization. (By question, by sub-topic, etc.)
    • Proper mechanics.

Week of December 5

  • Find one good new research source per day. If it is a real book, bring it to class. If it is a website, bookmark it, and be prepared to show it the next day.

    • Read for 20 minutes. Monday through Thursday night.
    • Read about the same topic, but read a different source every night.
    • Please SUMMARIZE what you read in a paragraph or so EVERY NIGHT.

    • Please include title and author of the book you are reading in your posts or the URL of the website.

  • Spelling: Write a sentence for each pair of homonyms that uses both spelled correctly. Due Friday. (Alternative: Write an analogy for each pair of words.)

  • BONUS OPPORTUNITY:  Instead of using your notebook, publish your KBAR responses on a Blogger blog! Follow the link and use your @student.slcusd.org account to log in. Create a name and a URL for yourself ! Encourage your parents and friends to read and comment (appropriately)! You must commit to the whole week; I don’t want to have to check both places. E-MAIL ME THE LINK FOR YOUR BLOG!
     If you blog your KBAR  (one+ paragraph DAILY) this week, you do not need signatures or  a chart.
