Is there anything mankind shouldn't mess with?

How do you decide?
World War III has begun, and the bombs are falling. You are the only one for miles around who has a bomb shelter. Your family is elsewhere, and cannot be saved. You have room and supplies for yourself and six other people. The following 10 people are pounding on the door, begging to be saved. Whom do you pick? How do you decide?

a) An accountant, 31 years old, b) his wife who is 6 months pregnant, c) a rabbi, 45 years old,  d) a 2nd year medical student, 25 years old, e) a famous historian and author, 55 years old, f) A Hollywood actress and singer, 24 years old, g) a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist, h) an Olympic decathlete, i) female college student, 20 years old,  j) a police officer and his gun (cannot be separated).

Does the End Justify the Means?
Does it matter how you accomplish a worthwhile goal?
(When) is it OK to do a bad thing to prevent or fix a worse thing? Who decides?

"The Flying Machine"

Why did the Emperor have the flying machine pilot executed? Is he happy about it?
Did he do the right thing for his people? Why/not?
