I. Warm up: Using a complete sentence, define a noun. Then give an example.  "A noun is a..."

II. "Unpack Your Adjectives"

III. Noun/Adjective Thang [Example:  idiot (n) ---> idiotic (adj)]
1. Turn instrument (n) into an adjective by adding a suffix.
2. Turn stereotype (n) into an adjective by adding a suffix.
3. Turn contempt (n) into an adjective by adding a suffix.
4. Turn phonics (n) into an adjective by changing its suffix.
5. Turn autobiography (n) into an adjective by adding a suffix.
6. Turn symphony (n) into an adjective by adding a suffix.


IV. "Verb: That's What's Happening!"
(Copy.) Verb: A verb is a word that shows action, being, or state of being. Examples: run, jump, be+, think, dream, change
V. Practice. List the nouns, adjectives and verbs you find in the following sentences.

[Example: 1) nouns: Jimmy... adjectives: a... verbs: ...]
1. Jimmy saw a very hairy, scary bear, and then beat a hasty retreat from his lair. (4n, 5adj, 2v)
2. A lone greaser walked slowly through the cold, wind-swept park, and thought about his future. (3n, 5adj, 2v)
