Warm Up I. What is this?
Warm Up II. (1) Write out the best interpretation for the quote. "Go to the edge of the cliff and jump off. Build your wings on the way down." (Ray Bradbury in  the Brown Daily Herald. March 24, 1995.) a) Everyone should learn to fly. b) Do stupid things, like jumping off cliffs. c) You should try new things, even if you don't always know what you're doing. d) If you're going to do stupid things, make sure you have a "safety net."
Warm Up III. Copy the definitions. Then do the practice.
Common: General name for a person place or thing. Example: cheese
Proper: Name of a particular person. Capitalized. Example: Jimmy
Concrete: A PPT you can sense. Example: cheese, Jimmy
Abstract: idea, feeling, etc. Example: love, bravery
Collective: names a group of people or things. Example: crew, team
Nouns Practice: ID the nouns with their types. Most will be of two types.
Example: Americans enjoy liberty because of the bravery of early colonists. Americans: proper, concrete; liberty, bravery: common, abstract; colonists: common, concrete

Those who reply truthfully are allowed to enter and depart in peace, but those who reply falsely are hanged. A traveler approaches the gate, and when asked his business, he replies, "I have come to be hanged." What should happen to this traveler?

What? a) This is a paradox, and therefore meaningless.  b) It means that you can't change what will happen in the future.  c) It means that your actions in the present and past have effects on the future.  d) It is saying you can't change the past.
