Making a "Works Cited" Page at the beginning of your Research Process. (5 min. max)
-This will make your note taking much more
efficient.
-This will help you to relocate
information you want to use in your Research Paper.
Mini Lesson: Introduce the Concept of "Note Taking": (5 minutes max)
1. Write each of your questions
on separate card(s) or page(s).
-Try not
to use more than 1 sheet of paper or two note cards per section of your
R.P. (Really!)
-All notes
that refer to or help answer the question go on the same card(s) or page(s).
2. Number your Notes:
-This is
the number of the source where you took the information: (see your "Works
Cited" list).
-Be sure
to record the page number(s), in your source, where you found the information.
3. Avoiding Plagiarism: (Your
paper should sound like you).
-Avoid copying
of sentences (except pieces you are going to quote) at all costs!
-Follow "Keyword
Note-Taking" guidelines: (bullets and key words and phrases).
4. Keeping track of direct
quotes:
-You should
use appropriate quotes as necessary. (no more than one or two per page).
Note Taking Practice: (Copy into your notebooks, 5 points max) (10 min. max)
- From the paragraph on the overhead, practice
taking useful notes:
-5 bullets
max, 25 words max, no complete sentences, no "duh" notes.
