Vocabulary Pretest.
My mom was singing along to her oldies station, "You're
so (1)_____; you probably think this song is about you..." So, instead
of laughing and (2)______(ing) her silly "dance" moves, I
figured I might ask about the party again. We had been arguing about whether
I was old enough to (3)_____ a dance club by myself.
"Please, please, please, let
me go to the party, Mom!" I said imploringly, but she said she was leery
about the crowd I was hanging with. She thought they might influence me
into some (4)__________ or illegal activities. I told
her that I would be (5)______, and make good decisions, but that
only (6)______(ed) an angry response from her. She said I
was being too nonchalant about the risks involved, and that I ought to
take her more seriously. She explained that life was made up of a million
(7)______
decisions, and each one was important. I got indignant with
her for treating me like a gullible little kid. I told her to quit (8)_______(ing)
me. I also said, "Mom, don't get all (9)______ and crazy on
me; you've taught me to be savvy and (10)______ enough to
make the right decisions."
She liked that one, and our
long-running (11) _____ about this finally ended; she let me go
to the party.
