Monday, 4/28/14 - Late Start Schedule. Meeting in Library All Week.
The only homework is RESEARCH!
You should be doing 20 minutes of research/note-taking per night, every night.
First due date: Thursday, 5/8. One page of typed rough draft with citations.
Library Procedure/Etiquette.
- Bring your folder, note cards/paper for notes, pencils/pens, any outside research materials. Leave your backpack in the cubbies.
- Meet first for instructions/lessons first. Three people per table.
- Mrs. Schwoerer will have information/lesson every day. Listen and learn.
- You can access the periodical database from home!
Don't make me use one of these!
Goals for the end of the period:
- Topic stuff approved.
- Rough draft outline for your topic.
- Note pages prepared.
- Works Cited page prepared.
- A good source found.
- That source added to Works Cited list.
- Note-taking begun.
Remember:
- Be sure to record the page and the source when you take notes.
- Be sure to record the source on your works cited list.
After you find your first resource.
- Record it on your Works Cited List. Put down the essential info (title, author, date of publication, type of source) and EasyBib it later.
- Check the table of contents, or look at
the sections the article has. Use that to help you turn your questions
into a first draft outline on the back of your topic sheet.
- Put the broadest topics/questions as the I, II, III's, etc.
- Your "big question" should usually be the last section or conclusion.
I. What is a UFO?
II. What are the most famous sightings?
III. What explanations are there?
IV. What evidence is there that they might be space ships?
V. Have there been coverups?
VI. Are UFOs really from outer space?
Now, write each of your main questions/sections on a separate sheet of paper or notecard.
Start reading and taking notes.
MAKE SURE YOU RECORD THE SOURCE AND THE PAGE FOR EVERYTHING!!!
Here is what a sample page would look like. Yours is due next Thursday, 5/8.
