The Lesson of the Moth (p250)
by Don Marquis

(BTW: archy is a cockroach.)

  1. Why no punctuation?
  2. What does it mean to be unconventional/conventional? Is the moth being conventional or unconventional?
  3. (quote) Why does the moth say he wishes to burn himself up in a flame or on a light bulb?
  4. (quote) What does archy say about that?
  5. Which end do you lean toward? Why?
  6. Is the moth right when he says that humans are "too civilized to enjoy themselves"? What makes you think so?
  7. What is it the moth has that archy wants?
  8. List as many factors as you can that might influence a decision someone is making. Examples might include: family or peer pressure, friendship, pride, embarrassment, adventure...   Which ones are most important? Does it matter what kind of decision it is?
