Try These Writing Ideas!
  1. Show why you would rather be a cracker, a cookie, or spaghetti.
  2. The title of the story is "The Magic Ticket." Write the opening paragraph. Introduce the characters. Show the setting.
  3. Show how the world would be different if reading and writing had never been invented.
  4. Write a letter to the school administration, convincing them to allow a seventh grade dance. To allow a soda machine.   To allow ?????
  5. Imagine you are visiting a place which has not discovered counting.
  6. What if people routinely live to be 150-200 years old? Speculate on the good and bad effects.
  7. Invent a new class that should be offered here at Laguna. What would be taught? What would the requirements be? What would be the point?
  8. Which PE activities have been the best? Why? Worst? Why? Give suggestions for improving the PE program.
  9. What if the Earth were suddenly plunged into darkness, 24 hours a day? Describe some of the changes that would result, and show the effects on everyday life.
  10. Some linguists (people who study language) believe that words like "ouch" came from very early man, and correspond to the sound that people make/made when hurt. Speculate on the origins of "shhhh"  or "ooops" or "wow" or ??? Where did these words come from?
  11.  The word "sophomore" actually means "wise fool. "Make up an origin for any cool-sounding word.
  12. What injustice or right would you be willing to go to jail for?
  13. "Be a Thing" story: A drop of water, a $20 bill, a quarter, a pen that keeps getting borrowed or lost, etc. Write from the point of view of the thing. Show how the world looks, feels, sounds from its point of view.
  14. Choose a "fad" here at school that you have observed (or participated in). Describe the fad (a suddenly popular way of dressing or acting or speaking, or a suddenly popular activity like yo-yos) from the point of view of someone who's never seen such things before. Show people in action. Try to figure out what caused a large group of people to starting doing the same thing(s).
  15. "Be careful what you wish for; it just might come true." Show the down-side(s) of getting your wish.
  16. What if all privately-owned cars were outlawed?
