 Homework?

Go over Test #11. Where the wheels fell off the cart: #______

Bottled Water.
1) What was most surprising and/or interesting to you?  Why? (Use a separate sheet but keep it in your notebook for now.)

2) Annie Leonard's speech is basically in three parts. She has an introduction, and she tells three stories:
Skim the article again. Copy the four sections above and fill in the blanks where you think each section begins and ends. (Use the same sheet and partner up, ditto above.)

3) Leonard addresses four main points: affordability, health, taste, and environmental issues throughout her argument. She argues that tap water wins on all four points.
Make a chart like this for each point: (I did the first one for you. Sort of. OK, Let's do it together.)
Main Point
Text Support
Affordability

"Copy quotes from the text that support/explain her point." (2+ quotes. Also write what paragraph the quote came from.)  Example:
  • "Bottled water costs 2,000 times more than tap." (7)
  •  "Spend money improving water systems." (28)
  • "People are choosing to pocket...they would otherwise be wasting on bottled water. " (32)

Summary: (Summarize the point she's making.)
Drinking tap water saves money because... it's free. If free tap water systems were improved more people would have access to free, healthy water.
Find at least 2-3 quotes from the text that support each point. Then summarize each of her four main points.
Affordability:
Health:
Taste
Environmental Issues

4) Write one sentence that covers the essential who, what, when, where, and why of "The Story of Bottled Water."
(Use the same sheet and partner up, but you each have to write your own sentence on your own sheet.)
Begin like this:
Annie Leonard's "The Story of Bottled Water" argues that...
Yes, it will be a long sentence.
