Monday, 10/9: Homework, Debrief Test #7, Dialogue

Late Start Skeddy.

Copy Homework into planner. Please note new due date for OUTSIDERS PROJECTS: Wednesday, 10/18.

Debrief Test #7. Better for MOST of you.

“Quotes, 10/9.” Copy and punctuate.

  1. Let me see your diary said Alice
  2. The best llamas explained Joey have green eyes
  3. Do you need another llama asked Mom

Punctuating Quotes.

To use people’s exact words, introduce or credit the quotation and place it inside quotation marks (“ ”). Use commas to separate the quotation from the rest of the sentence.

Our track coach loves to announce that it’s time to run laps by saying ,   “ Let’s put the fun in fundamentals ,” and holding up the stopwatch.

  • The first letter of the quotation is capitalized because it is a complete sentence.

When a quotation ends with a question mark (?) or an exclamation point (!), there is no need to add a comma to separate the quotation from the rest of the sentence.

“ Start your engines !” is another Coach Morton classic.
